We've Got a Love Jones

Soooo scratch that last entry!!! On the evening of February 20th, shortly after I wrote that last journal entry, my water broke here at home. Chris was out of town in Charlotte (about 3 hours away). I wasn't quite sure what was happening and was really in denial. When Chris called I mentioned that I was a little nervous and explained what happened. He got right back in the car and made his way back into town. I called the doctor and he said to come to the hospital when Chris got home and to "bring a toothbrush". Grrreat. I was not prepared for this at all!!! My house was not clean, laundry not done and I had a few home improvemnt projects that I planned to finish that weekend.

We got to the hospital around midnight and I still had no contractions. They hooked me up to the Pitocin drip and we waited. At 7am they checked me again and there was no change...no contractions and only 1 cm. dilated. They had just about given me the maximum dose of Pitocin too. There was one slight difference...they could feel that the baby was breech. This was a huge bummer for Chris and I. I was swept in for an emergency c-section. I was TERRIFIED. By 8:40am Peyton was out and in Chris's arms.

We stayed in the hospital for 4 nights, which seemed like and eternity. There is nothing peaceful about being there. Staff walks in your room at all hours to run tests. Poor Chris was sleeping in a pull out chair. All in all, the hospital staff was great though. They offer lots of kind words and advice and we were grateful to all of them. We are happy to be home, but no less busy. If you think that day to day life is exhausting, I challenge you to have a baby. This is like nothing I have experienced, but its the best thing I have experienced. More to come on the first week and I promise to post pics soon.

    Much Love....

37 weeks today! At the end of this week, I will be considered "full term". It is so strange to think that in less than one month Chris and I will be parents. The word "parent" just freaks me out! Now we have to be mature and responsible. Anyway, the appointment was pretty routine. Peyton's heart beat was good at 150 bpm. The doctor says she is in good position and that I am 80% effaced with no dilation. She is doing her kicks, but I can tell that there isn't much room left for her in there. We will keep you posted! Only 3 more weeks to go!
    Much Love!!!

Wow! 36 week check up today! It is all going by so fast. Everything is progressing well. Peyton's heart beat was still on target and the doctor says that she is now head down. That was good news! I am about 70% effaced with no dilation yet. The doctor says that is normal. I also had my Group B Strep test today. About 20% of women have this and it is treated with antibiotics while in labor. I should get those results next week. I have gained a total of 28 pounds, which I am quite happy with. My goal is to stay under a 35 pound weight gain. I have been totally indulgent in McDonalds and ice cream, so I am pleased that I haven't gained too much. We will now be going to the doctor's every Monday until Peyton arrives! We picked out a pediatrician. They are not far from the house and come very highly recommended. So we can officially check that off of our huge "to do" list!

We also took our Birthing class this weekend. We found it to be VERY informative and feel much more confident after taking it. We got a tour of the Maternity Ward at WakeMed and also the nursery! The hospital is beautiful, almost like a small hotel. Everyone gets a private room and bathroom. There were a few babies in the nursery and they were so peaceful and cute. We can't wait for Peyton's arrival!!!!

    Much Love!!!
